STEAM TURBINE SEALING RINGS?

STEAM TURBINE SEALING RINGS?

…yes we do those too…!

If you are involved with the repair and maintenance of steam turbines, especially those from the leading manufacturer Westinghouse, then you will probably be interested to know that QIN have a long history of manufacturing the alloy sealing rings which are designed to withstand the extremely high temperatures generated within this application.

Since our days as Industriale, most months find us sending out QIN sealing rings compatible with Westinghouse steam turbines to a worldwide customer base – and we know that there will be a much larger international audience for them. So we have created a brand new technical data sheet to tell the rest of you more about them.

The list of steam turbines within that data sheet for which we have compatible sealing ring designs is not exhaustive, it is just a summary of our most-requested and most-supplied steam turbine sealing rings. Within the Industriale files we hold information on very many more turbines, as well as other sealing ring applications. And where we do not have existing designs we are always able to reverse-engineer products from samples.

If you’ve read this far, then you probably have an interest in sealing rings for Westinghouse (and other) steam turbines. So why not contact us at websales@q-in.eu to request that data sheet and find out more?

Whilst a large part of the work we do involves the supply of large-bore piston rings, be they modern compression rings with chrome ceramic coatings or energised oil scraper rings for marine and power applications, a good proportion of our work involves the supply of other types of rings for other applications – such as these steam turbine sealing rings

Marine engine piston rings, locomotive piston rings, industrial piston rings, steam turbine sealing rings, power plant engine piston rings: we cover all these applications here at QIN across a bore range which extends from 160mm up to 600mm.

QIN’s support is always just a phone call or an email away.

LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE PISTON RINGS?

LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE PISTON RINGS?

…yes we can…!

Whilst a large part of the work we do involves the supply of modern compression rings with chrome ceramic coatings and energised oil scraper rings for marine and power applications, a good proportion of our work involves the supply of other types of rings for other applications.

Amongst those applications can be found ring sets for compression applications, sealing rings for steam turbines, and piston rings destined for railway engines.

Some of the rail engine piston ring projects we get involved with see us drawing upon current technology to design highly technical piston rings for the low-emission locomotive engines of today and tomorrow. But there are still a lot of older locomotive engines out there, needing support throughout the remainder of their service lives.

One such project sees us currently manufacturing piston rings for an engine popular in the early 1990s which is still within widespread use around Asia. When contacted by the railway operator in question, we were able to check into the archives from our days as Industriale Piston Rings and see that we already knew all about this engine and the piston ring set it required.

The first of those rings are now hot off our production line and about to be packed for despatch. But we quickly popped a couple of them into our display cabinet to take a picture of them before they left us.

Marine engine piston rings, locomotive piston rings, industrial piston rings, steam turbine sealing rings, power plant engine piston rings: we cover all these applications here at QIN across a bore range which extends from 160mm up to 600mm.

If you’ve read this far, then you probably are in one of those sectors. So why not contact us at websales@q-in.eu to find out more about the technical and commercial benefits working with QIN can bring to your large-bore engine operations?

OEM quality from qin…

OEM quality from qin…

…what does that actually mean?

It means, very simply, that we have been accepted to supply our large bore piston rings directly to some of the world’s leading builders of diesel and gas engines.

This isn’t something that happens overnight. When OEMs come knocking at our door then it is normally the start of a process which will take lots of behind the scenes work – as with a recent 3-day virtual audit from a household name OEM customer which we passed with flying colours a full 16 percentage points above the bar set for acceptance onto their vendor programme.

Over the course of further months, and sometimes years, sample piston rings from QIN are rigorously tested. Sometimes this will be in the form of accelerated fatigue testing in a lab against a series of defined protocols. Sometimes our piston rings will be run on a test engine at the OEM’s facility for 1000s of hours and the level of wear closely analysed along the way. Sometimes they will be reliability-tested for further months and years out in the field, on vessels as they navigate the planet’s oceans or locomotives as they cross continents. Sometimes it can be all of the above. And that’s all just fine with us – we’ve been in this game since 1956, and are here for the long-haul.

What does that all add up to for those who choose to fit QIN piston rings to their engines? Peace of mind.

OEM Piston Rings…

OEM Piston Rings…

…what every piston ring manufacturer wishes for at Christmas.

What’s under your office Christmas tree this year?

Under the QIN tree are some FAI rings about to head out to a new international OEM customer, with whom we look forward to doing a lot more work in 2021.

And yes, we know it’s a bit niche…!

We take the opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas to all our contacts and customers who celebrate it. Have a good, restful & peaceful break, and we look forward to working with you again in what will hopefully very soon become a much more normal New Year…

What’s In A Name?

What’s In A Name?

For those of you who didn’t know, QIN = Industriale

As we speak with new piston ring contacts around the world, quite often they tell us something like “why haven’t we heard of you before?”. To which our answer is “you probably have”.

We’re the 21st century regeneration of the business founded in 1956 and previously known simply as Industriale. Industriale piston rings achieved widespread market recognition over the decades as the business in turn span out of Coppers into Fiat and then from Fiat into DAROS piston rings in the early 1990s, where we became the 4-Stroke arm of the DAROS 2-Stroke piston ring business for 15 years or so.

In 2007 there was a final change of hands, from DAROS into private ownership under a new management team. And that is where we are today.

Our logo and tagline used to reflect this heritage, showing our full name Quality Industriale from which QIN is derived. But within our 2020 rebranding we have moved onto a new tagline “Piston Ring Excellence” which says more about what we bring to those who choose to work with us as of 2020.

However, we are proud of our heritage and will always carry the Industriale piston rings name and history with us.

Call us QIN (and pronounce it “QUIN” or “Q.I.N.” as you prefer) or call us Industriale. We don’t mind, just as long as you call us!

Contact us on +39.010.7172692 or at websales@q-in.eu to find out more about how our wide range of rings for big 4-Stroke diesel and gas engines gives better outcomes to those who choose to work with us.
